Opting not to pursue wildfire insurance litigation, Nye picked TikTok to present her experience, supporting information and questions for national public input.
The announcement follows Nye’s shared “Top Ten Reasons” list not to pursue litigation against California FAIR Plan, Farmers Insurance Group and two insurance agents whose actions she has questioned in connection with her home and contents insurance coverage.
Instead, Nye plans to take the underlying story directly to the public through a continuing series of TikTok posts.
“Courtroom to TikTok is not about asking people to become judges or jurors,” Nye said. “It’s giving them a chance to see the information, hear the questions it raises, and then share their conclusions.”
From a Legal Dispute to a Public Conversation
Nye explained, “Rather than presenting every allegation, document and question at once, Courtroom to TikTok will introduce my story one subject at a time.”
Future installments are expected to address Nye’s insurance coverage, communications surrounding that coverage and questions she says remain unanswered following her wildfire loss. Text, images, documents and short-form video will be used as the story develops.
Audience participation is intended to become part of that chronology. Questions and responses generated by viewers may identify subjects for subsequent TikTok installments.
Participants will also be invited to post their opinions on The Nurses Wall, creating a permanent public record of the conversation.
“I know what happened to me,” Nye said. “What I don’t know is how many other people have had experiences that raise the same questions. That’s one reason I want to take this conversation public.” Also, Nye emphasized, “My story is one story. Courtroom to TikTok is about finding out what happens when the public starts asking questions.”
Nye’s first Courtroom to TikTok posts will be announced separately.
