Trump Threatens to Dismiss Fed Governor If She Doesn’t Step Down
(MENAFN) In a bold move Friday, President Donald Trump announced he would dismiss Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook if she refuses to resign, following serious allegations of mortgage fraud.
"What she did was bad," Trump stated during an unplanned visit to The People’s House museum. "So I’ll fire her if she doesn’t resign."
The controversy erupted earlier this week when Bill Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, accused Cook of falsely listing two separate homes as her primary residence. Pulte revealed he had referred the case to the Department of Justice, which confirmed Thursday that an investigation is now underway.
Cook, appointed by President Joe Biden, has firmly denied any wrongdoing. She stated that she has "no intention of being bullied to step down" and is currently reviewing her records to address the claims.
As a key member of the Federal Reserve, Cook has consistently aligned with Chairman Jerome Powell in voting to keep interest rates unchanged.
